Here On Earth movie Premiere
On March 15,
2000 I went to see the premiere of Here On Earth. It was
at AMC Santa Monica 7 and I went with my best friend, Ruby. We
wanted to go because we knew
Nick and Jessica would be singing
before the movie. We didn't have tickets or anything so we
decided to go a little early and try to get in. We left for LA at
around 2:30, got lost, and ended up at the theater at around
4:30pm. There were two KIIS vans there when we arrived and there
was already a line of people starting! The people were starting
to put up lights and the red carpet was already down! So we
walked around a little then talked to Dan from KIIS-FM. They were
there to give people the tickests they won on the radio. Ruby and
I know from past experience that people always flake and never
show up when they win tickets, so we asked Dan if we could have
extra tickets if no one showed up to claim them. He said yes, but
we would have to wait until 7pm. That was quite fine with us
since the whole thing was not supposed to start until 7:30 (or so
I thought!). So Ruby and I decided to write a letter to Nick
while we were waiting. (Karla, I told him you said
"hi!") By the time we finished our letter, it was about
5:15 or so and Dan gave us the tickets early! He also gave
tickets to other girls that were waiting too, we thought that was
pretty cool. We were really excited cause we knew we'd get to see
Nick!! So we got in line and waited for a while then they finally
let all the "fans" in the theater. The lady was going
to take our tickets but we asked if we could keep them for our
scrapbook so we still have ours! As we were walking in, they gave
us a yellow piece of paper that said "Guest of 20th Century
Fox." We didn't know what exactly that meant but we didn't
ask questions! We went where they told us and there were big
movie posters for Here On Earth everywhere. They had
free soda and popcorn for us and there were free Seventeen
magazines too! (I had already bought one of course cause Nick and
Jess were on the cover!). We went to sit down and went into the
theater that only people with the yellow passes went (now we were
happy we got those yellow passes!) We saw Dan in at the front of
the theater and asked him where Nick and Jess would be singing
and he said right here! On the little platform/stage in front of
the big movie screen! We were incredibly excited and took two of
the closest seats - in the fourth row! Gary Spears from KIIS-FM
came out and gave away some cool prizes. I got a t-shirt and
magnet and a big movie poster which looks just great on my wall!
Then Jessica Simpson came out and sang "I Wanna Love You
Forever." She really has a great voice - she sounds so good
live and most people don't. She had on a really pretty light blue
lacy-ish/sparkly dress. Then she started singing "Where You
Are." Ruby and I moved up to closer empty seats - she got
1st row and I made it to second! Then Nick came out - the girls
and cameras went crazy! He looked very nice but sorta different.
He was quite tan and looked kinda thin to me. He was wearing a white sweater type cardigan (?) with a grayish-blue shirt underneath, and khakis (he was lookin' mighty fine LOL) :) They sang beautifully. Nick barely looked at the
audience though, he mostly had his eyes on Jessica it seemed.
Well as they were walking out, my friend Ruby got up close and
handed our letter to Nick!!! He said "Thanks" and
touched her - lucky girl! :) We were so elated cause he actually
had our letter. Now, whether or not he actually read it is a
different story, but he did get it!! We told him to call Ruby's
cell phone but he didn't :( Oh well! We were lucky enough to have
Justin call back on July 28th, 1999 so that is good enough for
us. Well... after Nick and Jess left, Gary Spears came back on
and Chris Klien and Josh Hartnett came out and talked for a
minute. They also signed a few autographs which was nice. The
other star, Leelee Sobieski, didn't make it "due to
traffic." KIIS gave out some more prizes and the movie
finally started at 7:30pm. It is a really good movie but is so
sad, everyone in the theater was crying. Ruby and I left as soon
as the movie was over and were home by 10:30! A new record for
our 98º escapades, we usually don't get back before midnight or
1am! But that was definitely a night to remember. We didn't even
have to try hard to get in (I love a good challenge but there was
nothing challenging about last night!) That was fun though, I am
happy I got to see Nick live because it has been so long since I
have seen any of 98º and I was going through withdrawal!! We love
you 98 Degrees.... you rock :)
