International 98º day coming soon! 1/28/02
Fans are organizing an "International 98º Day" on February 8th, 2002.  What is required is that you (the fans) wear your 98º gear (t-shirts, tattoos, buttons, hats, etc), play your 98º really loud all day long so everyone can hear it, call in and email radio stations to request 98 Degrees songs, and those in NYC go to TRL with big 98º signs.

Should be fun :)  Show your support - let people know their fans have not fallen off the face of the earth like the guys themselves.

You can also show support for the guys by joining the yahoo group Pride N 98º.  The group owners will send you DJ email addresses every week and all you have to do is request 98 Degrees songs!  You can join here.  And you can win fabulous prizes!

And finally, if you want to show 98 Degrees that you are still a fan, please send postcards declaring your devotion to:  (Just let them know how much you appreciate them and love their music)

New article about Nick 1/28/02
98 Degrees dude is leaving town to go back to L.A.

My, how the girls in town went ga-ga when Nick Lachey, lead singer for boy band 98 Degrees, moved to the Williamson County area. How ga-ga?

Nick got a Tennessee driver's license soon after he moved here, and apparently the young lady at the state Safety Department who processed that for him was a bit smitten with Nick.

''The girl from the (Safety Department) ... I got a call from her at home that night,'' he said. ''I thought, 'Oh, here we go.' ''

But Nick laughed it off. ''She was thorough, going above and beyond the call of duty."

One of his favorite hangouts in Nashville was beer-making Big River Grill at Second and Broadway, where his drink of choice was gin and tonics. Why am I using the word ''was''?

Bad news, ladies: Nick told me this week he's probably going to move back to Los Angeles permanently.

Nick came out here last January because he had a high school buddy/music collaborator who was living in Middle Tennessee.

Alas, the friend is leaving the state, so Nick probably will go back to L.A. for good.

Soon, however, Nick will be reunited with Tennessean Amy Grant. Find out why — and what secret he recently revealed to Amy — in tomorrow's column.
-----------------------------------
Nick and Amy sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G…

Nick Lachey, Middle Tennessee resident and lead singer of boy band 98 Degrees, is sharing a gig with fellow Middle Tennessean Amy Grant. Both will judge the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. (Kids, go to www.jlsc.com , or call 1-888-884-5572 for information.)

It'll be the second time Nick and Amy do a gig together: 98 Degrees once played on an Amy Grant Christmas special.

And it was then that Nick revealed to Amy that she was his first celebrity crush when he was a kid.

''I wrote her a fan letter,'' Nick said. ''It was the only fan letter I've ever written.''

Did Amy ever write back?

''No return letter,'' Nick says. ''That's all right. She was busy.'

Greatest Hits CD coming 1/24/02
Apparently Nick was on the radio today announcing the coming release of a 98º Greatest Hits CD in the Spring.  This corroborates reports from record stores that there will be a 98º Greatest Hits release on February 26th.  According to the source, Nick also said that there would be a new single released and mentioned the song writing contest that is reported below in the news.

Here is an email received by a fan from Universal.

it's true...it's called "The Collection" and it will be in-stores May 7th. There will be one brand new track on the album.

Drew's On The Spot Answers 1/21/02
Over at the Official Site, Devon has finally posted Drew's answers for his "On The Spot" questions.

Who do you think was the best new musical artist of 2002?

Matt, San Diego, CA

I believe as I'm sure many others do also that Alicia Keys was the best new artist. There is something to be said about an artist who can just sit behind a piano and captivate you. The best part is ... she's even better live.

-----------------------

Being a newly licensed driver, I'm very excited about my first car. What was your first car (make, model, color, etc)?

Kyle, Illinois

My first car was an 1981 Toyota Celica. It was supposed to be tan but you couldn't tell because of all the rust. I loved that car.

----------------------

When asked on Much Music what you had learned doing the filming of the "Give Me Just One Night" video, you mentioned learning not to mess with iguanas. What is the real story behind that? What happened that made you learn that lesson?

Barb ,Phoenix, AZ

During that video shoot, we were doing the shots where we were coming into shore on the boat and as soon as we got up to the sand we saw about 10 iguanas just standing there. We would move towards them and throw rocks but they just wouldn't move then one started coming towards us. We then decided that it was okay for the Iguanas to stay there in the sun.

-------------------

I'm in college, and sometimes I find it difficult to stay focused. What do you do to stay motivated when you are struggling with something difficult?

Natasha ,California

Trust me, if anyone can relate to struggling to stay focused it's me. I used to have a real problem with that. What I do now is I think about the reason I started whatever it is that I'm doing. Usually there was some strong motivation behind starting it. It also sometimes helps to think about the consequences of not staying focused.

--------------------

What would you say was the most disappointing thing that's happened in your career so far?

Katie ,Pennsylvania

I have been very lucky not to have too many disappointing moments. However anytime you read a bad review or someone is bashing you in the press that can be pretty discouraging.

-------------------

I was wondering how it works with 98 Degrees products that are marketed. Do you guys have any say so or final approval of what is put out for sale, like the Game, the Racing Champions car, the Bedding, things like that?

Melody ,California

There are a lot of different ways of doing the merchandise. We do have say over what does and doesn't get put out. Sometimes the final product is a little disappointing but for the most part is usually pretty good stuff. You've probably seen a lot of different kinds of merchandise for artists but haven't seen the same stuff for us. This is a conscious decision on our part.

----------------------

Some kids at school have been calling me fat. I was wondering if you ever had to deal with things like that, and if you have how did you overcome it?

Valerie ,Des Moines, IA

To be perfectly honest you will be dealing with people like that your entire life. The worst part is that it has nothing to do with you. I'll tell you what my parents told me and that is that there are a lot of insecure people in the world and the only way they can make themselves feel better is by tearing you down. You just have to hold your head high and be happy with how God made you.

----------------------

I have heard many rumors that Revelation is 98 Degrees' last CD. Are you guys taking an extended break or, as we all hope, will you will heading back into the recording studio in 2002?

Briana ,Ventura, CA

I had a feeling that this question was going to come up. The answer is "We are taking an extended break." Music right now is in a different place than it was in 1997 when we entered the scene. We are just taking our time to see how we fit into it. We also have been presented with a lot of opportunities over the past couple of years that we want to explore. All of these things take time. As always we appreciate your patience and continued support.

Nick going solo? 1/7/02
This was reported in a reputable industry magazine, who quotes their source as Universal’s Dave Reynolds:

Also in 2002 look for new CDs from Nelly, Brian McKnight, a solo effort from Nick Lachey of 98*, and The Scorpion King soundtrack featuring WWF Superstar The Rock.
