New Nick journal entry

Check it out on his website,
http://www.nicklachey.com, or read
it below:5/29/2003 12:30:00 PM
phase 2
well it's really getting started now. i first want to thank everyone who
braved the chilly weather and came out for the wbli show at jone's beach.
i wish the weather would have been better, but it was still fun. the
wardrobe lady forgot my outfit, so i had to go on in my street clothes.
that was interesting. anyway, we're still working out all the kinks in the
stage show, so bear with us a little bit and we'll get it right. i hate
that i have to get up there without a band and do a dat show, but
unfortunately, that's the way it is when your first starting out. in any
case, it was great to see some familiar faces out there in the crowd. i
also just shot my first video last night. it was a long day of shooting,
but i'm really happy with how it went and i think it's going to be a great
video. billy woodruff directed it. he also did the "my everything" video
for 98 degrees a couple of years ago. i can't wait for it to be done and
on mtv for you all to see. it's such a nervous time right now when the
single is picked and you're just waiting for the day it goes to radio.
right now the radio add date is june 24th, so i need all of you to call
and request "shut up" as we get closer to that date. i hope you all
realise how crucial you all are to my success. with all of your support, i
know it's going to be a great summer. speaking of summer, i know that some
of you are planning to go to 98 degrees fanfest in cincinnati. i hope that
we'll all be able to come to that and thank you for your fantastic support
over the last 8 years. 98 degrees' fans are the most loyal and
enthusiastic in the world and we owe our successes to you all. for those
of you in the tampa area, come out to the wflz show on june 7th. i'd love
to see you there. anyway, take care everyone and i'll talk to you soon.
all the best-

Extra news clip 5/29/03
This from Extratv.com's Daily News:
Nick Lachey
They are the rocker and the
songbird, but before Jessica Simpson and 98 Degrees’ Nick Lachey said
their melodious "I do's," Nick was living it up as a bachelor in his West
Los Angeles condo.
Nick says, "I loved living
there. I designed it as my bachelor pad. It's a great design, very
soothing place to be."
Located on the famed Wilshire Boulevard, just blocks from Beverly Hills
and the Pacific Ocean, realtor Chad Rogers says it's an ideal place for a
rock star wannabe or anyone else who wants to live in style. Rogers says,
"It's just a luxury type of an atmosphere."
The 2,000-square foot unit includes two bedrooms, a state of the art
kitchen, and a spacious living room and dining room. Nick says, "I think
at that point in my life it was perfect for me."
But now that Nick has settled down, he says, "I have a little more calm of
a life and I get to watch the ducks land in my pool."
Now Nick is ready to put his pad on the market with a cool asking price of
$1,000,000. |

Nick news from the radio 5/24/03
Here's a summary of what Nick
said tonight on the Open House Party:
The new album will be called Soulo.
Expect it to have ballads similar to 98º but funkier and more guitar on
other tracks.
The reality show with him and Jessica
will be called Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. It will follow them all
over the place, even catching arguments on camera. Both Nick & Jess
have singles and albums coming out on the same day. The cameras
followed them on a camping trip with Drew & Lea to Yosemite - 3 days
without a shower! |

Nick caught by fashion police
5/23/03
This from e-online:

Gator Bait
Jessica Simpson's other half, Nick Lachey, goes retro lounge lizard
at the Race to Erase MS in Los Angeles. He dons Tommy Hilfiger '70s flashback
duds: red reptile-skin frock coat, matching boots, maroon and gray paisley-print
pants and a cowl-neck sweater that could double for a neck brace in a personal-injury
court case. Let this be a lesson: What we have here is a good example of the
clothes wearing the man.

Note
from Jeff 5/23/03
Jeff has posted a note to his
fans on his official website. You can read it below, or check it

First, let me thank all of you
for your continued support and for all of the amazing E-mails I have
been getting. As many of you know, I am finishing up my first solo CD
and it should be set for release by the end of June / beginning of July.
As you can imagine, I am totally excited about this project as it really
gives me the chance to let you hear what's in my heart through my music.
The CD is called WHISPER THAT WAY and, it features all new songs that I
have co-written and every song comes from a very personal part of my
life and I hope you all will love it as much as I do!
I know many of you are anxious for information and all I can ask is for
you to be patient. My official website is under construction so we can
bring you the best and, most accurate information. The official launch
will happen VERY soon and, we will try to get it up as the information
and design is confirmed and completed.
I can tell you this, I will be making lots of appearances around the
country this summer to promote the new CD and, the website will have
everything from appearance and concert information, video clips of
behind the scenes of making the album and my CD cover photo shoot, an
online store wth some cool items, including my new CD (which, will be
available exclusively through my website and appearances around the
country this summer).
For all of you who want to be a part of my street team (or are already
on the team), stay tuned to the website and your E-mail "in" box for
information from my management about how you can help me on my new solo
venture. I really need all of your support to help make this dream come
true. And, if the last five years with 98 Degrees is any indication of
your support, I am truly blessed to have you all! Stay tuned..there is
more to come! Thanks again for everything - you guys are the best!

Bio up on Nick's site 5/3/03
There's a biography up
finally at Nick's site. Check it out below for some new info on
his upcoming CD.
NICK LACHEY
For the last six years, the soundtrack to much of Nick Lachey's life has
been wild screams and thunderous applause. You wouldn't guess that by
talking to him, though. As one-fourth of the vocal group sensation 98º,
Nick has enjoyed multi-platinum sales and sold-out world tours. But
Nick's down-to-earth demeanor, genuine humility, and faith in his talent
has drowned out the peripheral noise that makes most superstars, well,
less than super.
"Growing up in the midwest grounds you in a way that you don't get
everywhere," says Nick, who grew up in Cincinnati before moving to Los
Angeles to realize his dreams. "I love it there. But when you live in
the midwest, some people think, 'It's not going to happen to me.' I hate
that some people feel trapped there. I just told myself, 'Hey, it's
going to happen to somebody. Why shouldn't it happen to me?'"
And indeed it did happen. The next chapter of that dream-made-reality
finds Nick confidently taking on his greatest challenge thus far: his
self-titled solo debut. Recorded with a host of cutting-edge producers,
the disc showcases Nick's passion for soul-based music, and takes the
songs in some surprising new directions. Throughout, the stellar
arrangements make ample room for Nick's fluid vocals, heart-wrenching
melodies, and ever-optimistic lyrics. "I definitely wanted to evolve
from where the group left off, and try some new things," he says. "At
the same time, I didn't want to go so far that I alienated the fans who
have been so loyal through the years."
"Shut Up," co-written and produced by The Matrix crew (Avril Lavigne),
beckons from the dancefloor with a salacious groove punctuated by horns,
slap bass and elastic guitar. "What I like about 'Shut Up' is that it's
fresh and different with the horns and the guitar," says Nick. "It's
uptempo, but not in a trendy hip-hop sort of way. We infused everything
we did with soul." "Carry On," co-written and produced by Guy Chambers
(Robbie Williams), tingles the spine and swells the chest with shuffling
beats, anthemic guitars and uplifting lyrics. "We were living through a
horrible time when I wrote that, and we're still living through a
horrible time," says Nick, who penned the song in late 2001. "I wanted
to write a song that inspired people to leave it all behind and press
on." And "On And On," written by Nick and produced by Trina Harmon and
Stuart Brawley (Brandy, Michael Jackson), strips it all down to stately
grand piano and Nick's soulful voice. The effect is timeless. "If there
was a prevailing theme to the album, it was 'Don't overproduce it; make
it more organic,'" he says. "I wanted to step away from the big ballad
production that I'm known for."
Though the album's gestation was relatively short, the diverse material
reflects the accelerated pace of Nick's life, which included numerous
ups and downs. The lyrics are universal enough that listeners can apply
their own situations to the songs. But those craving specifics about the
singer's life won't be disappointed, either. "Edge Of Eternity," a
windswept, R&B-inflected ballad, was written as a wedding present for
his new bride, pop chanteuse Jessica Simpson. "It was definitely written
with her in mind," he says, beaming. "But I didn't have a chance to sing
it on our wedding day [October 26, 2002]." Instead, Nick's bandmates--his
brother Drew, Jeff Timmons and Justin Jeffre--serenaded her with "My
Everything," a hit from 98º's Revelation that Nick also wrote for
Jessica.
"Let Go," once again produced by The Matrix, delivers Nick's thumbnail
autobiography thus far, humorously recalling his early aspirations.
"When I was little, my mom used to say that I could grow up to be a
doctor," he says with a laugh. "But she's always been supportive of my
decision to pursue a singing career. But, yeah, like the song says, I
remember moving to L.A. and how uncertain the situation was. I've
definitely slept on enough floors." His success ensures he'll never have
to do that again. But there are some things he'll always retain from
those early years. "This album is definitely a transition for me," he
admits. "But I can't see myself handling things any differently than I
have thus far. I've always maintained an attitude of staying as humble
as I possibly could."
